Sign Our Petition: Urgent Climate Action and a Resilience Plan for Dudley Borough

Stourbridge Climate Action and Friends of the Earth Stourbridge have launched a joint petition calling on Dudley Council to take urgent action on the climate emergency and make the borough more resilient to extreme heat, wildfire and flooding.

The devastating fires in Stourbridge and the surrounding areas this summer raise serious questions about whether these risks were properly anticipated and prepared for.

Heatwaves have also been linked to excess deaths across England, so we need to protect residents from increasingly dangerous temperatures.

We are asking Dudley Council to:

    1. Review the risks now. Immediately review wildfire, extreme heat and flooding risks across the borough with the relevant government authorities, the fire and rescue service, public health bodies and other partners. This should include an assessment of gaps in how these risks were anticipated and prepared for in the past.
    2. Put a funded plan in place before the next heatwave. A Climate Adaptation and Emergency Preparedness plan to reduce fire risks and protect residents, particularly the most vulnerable, from heat-related illness and avoidable deaths. It must cover wildfire prevention, overheating in homes and care settings, public warnings, access to cool spaces and support for residents at risk. It must also reduce flood risks and protect homes, green spaces and essential services.
    3. Publish a borough-wide Climate Action and Resilience plan in early 2027, with clear responsibilities, funding, deadlines and measurable targets for cutting carbon emissions and adapting to climate change.
    4. Keep engaging with the community through an ongoing programme with residents, local businesses and environmental organisations to raise awareness, support practical action and cut emissions in line with the Council’s published net-zero commitments.
    5. Report progress every quarter in accessible reports for all residents, setting out what has been done, what has been spent, measurable results and any delays, together with the steps being taken to address them.

Dudley Council declared a climate emergency in 2020. This petition asks it to turn that declaration into a funded, accountable plan.

The petition closes on 30 November 2026. Every signature strengthens the case, so please sign and share it with friends, family and neighbours across Dudley Borough.

  • Ask Your Councillors To Act On Climate Change

Ask Your Councillors To Act On Climate Change

The fires in Stourbridge this summer have shown why we need to plan for the risks facing our communities. That includes fires near homes and green spaces, flooding, and very hot weather that can put vulnerable residents at particular risk.

Your three ward councillors can help press for action. We drafted three emails for your to use with a press of a button.

    Step 1: Engage

Choose your ward below to open a draft email asking what they are doing to protect residents and move forward with a borough-wide climate plan.

Before sending, please review and personalise the message. Add any concerns about your own area, then replace the placeholders with your full name and address so your councillors know you live in their ward. The button opens an email draft; it does not send it for you.

Step 2: They answered. Ask them what actions they are currently taking or will take

Use the button below to generate the email, add your councillor’s email addresses and name, your name and address and press send!

Step 3: Chase them if they haven’t answered to your first email.

Use the button below to generate the email, add your councillor’s email addresses and name, your name and address and press send!

Let us know if they replied

Once you receive an answer (or get not reply) please complete this short questionnaire https://forms.gle/qgX1STHffdiyi4J6A

Your feedback will help Stourbridge Climate Action follow up on unanswered questions and publish occasional summaries of how representatives are responding.

    Thank you for taking action!

Please share this post with friends and family. The more residents who contact their MP and councillors, the harder it will be to overlook our concerns—and the stronger the case for action.

Not living in Stourbridge? You can use one of the template above and replace the councillors’ names and email addresses. Check who is your councillor on this page: https://www.dudley.gov.uk/council-community/councillors/find-my-councillor/

Email Cat Eccles MP About Your Climate Change Concerns

Write to your MP Cat Eccles about your concerns regarding climate change and adaptation. We drafted an email for you to review and send!

The fires in Stourbridge this August have raised concerns about how we prepare for periods of hot, dry, and very wet weather. If you are worried about climate change, fire risks near your home, or the risk of flooding, you can write to Cat Eccles MP and ask what is being done to protect you.

We asked Cat Eccles to reach out to Dudley Council, West Midlands Fire Service and other partner agencies to assess local risks, develop a coordinated plan and help residents understand how to prepare for fires and flooding.

We acknowledge her long-term commitment to environmental issues around climate change and protecting nature. The more of us sharing our concerns will support her in her actions.

Click the button below to open a draft email addressed to Cat Eccles MP, with Stourbridge Climate Action copied in.

Please review the message before sending it yourself:

    • At the end of the second paragraph add an example that reflects your own concerns .
